Arrive
Arrive at Lo Wu
After Lo Wu immigration you are in East Rail Lo Wu station. Hours about 06:30–24:00. Shenzhen’s Lo Wu Commercial City is at the gate; the Hong Kong station is convenience-store level.
Notes dated 2026-09
Lo Wu is on foot: Shenzhen Metro line 1 / Lo Wu Commercial City → Shenzhen immigration → Hong Kong immigration → East Rail platforms. There is no cross-border bus here. Hours about 06:30–24:00. Check last trains in MTR Mobile; do not get stuck in the hall.
Food and shops on both sides
- Shenzhen side: Lo Wu Commercial City sits on the port — several floors of restaurants, pharmacies, clothes and massage, a few minutes’ walk. KFC is common in the transport building; McDonald’s is nearby at Jiayina Plaza. Shenzhen Metro line 1 is in the same complex; Dongmen is one or two stops. This is a city at the gate, not a Shenzhen Bay plaza.
- Hong Kong Lo Wu station: almost no restaurant — convenience store and snacks. After crossing, East Rail to Sheung Shui, Fanling or Tai Po. Do not wait hungry on the platform.
- No fair SIM at the gate. After you ride in, Sheung Shui Plaza shops; passport. Octopus at the Lo Wu customer centre or machines; MTR QR can get you on once.
Shops turn over. What follows is the shape of the port — a mall at the gate, or a big plaza — not a permanent menu.
To each district
| Going to | How | Roughly | Watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hong Kong Island | East Rail south to Admiralty or Exhibition Centre, then Island line. | ~50–60 min | Through to Admiralty is the simple path. |
| Kowloon | East Rail to Hung Hom or Mong Kok East, then Tsuen Wan line or walk. TST via East Tsim Sha Tsui. | ~40–50 min | Mong Kok East is a walk from Nathan Road. |
| Tseung Kwan O | East Rail into Kowloon, then Tseung Kwan O line. | ~55–70 min | Confirm the interchange in MTR Mobile. |
| Tai Po | East Rail two stops south to Tai Po Market. | ~15 min | One of the closest NT towns from Lo Wu. |
| Fanling, Sheung Shui | East Rail south: Sheung Shui one stop, Fanling two. | 5–10 min | Sheung Shui is a good first stop for food, a SIM, and Octopus. |
| Tuen Mun, Yuen Long | East Rail is not a straight shot to Tin Shui Wai or Yuen Long. Change to Tuen Ma Line around Hung Hom or Kam Sheung Road, or take a bus. First time: stay on MTR. | ~70–90 min | If you are staying west, Shenzhen Bay or Huanggang is often closer. |
Land ports rarely sell a fair data SIM. Turn on a Hong Kong eSIM before you travel; after crossing, buy in Sheung Shui, Yuen Long, Mong Kok or Sham Shui Po with your passport. Port convenience stores are emergency only.
Fares, frequencies, and border hours change. Recheck App 1933, Citybus, MTR Mobile, or the ImmD app before you go.
Passenger hours follow ImmD on the day. Bad weather can close early. Road crossings often shut the approach about 30 minutes before closing.
Questions
Do I pay extra for Lo Wu station?
Yes. Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau are East Rail border stations, dearer than Sheung Shui. After Hong Kong immigration you are in the paid area. Have Octopus or QR. Crossing is not a free ride.
