Arrive: which gate you came through
Airport, West Kowloon HSR, Lo Wu, Futian / Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, Huanggang road, Shenzhen Bay, Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai, HZMB, ferries. Get Octopus, then ride toward your district.
Notes dated 2026-09
Most first arrivals fly into Chek Lap Kok. Others walk Lo Wu or Futian, use Shenzhen Bay co-location, ride HSR into West Kowloon, or ferry from Macau. Names differ on each side. The wrong gate can add an hour. Pages below are by where you are standing.
Same order at every gate
- Leave Hong Kong immigration on official signs only. No touts.
- Octopus: airport, West Kowloon, Lo Wu / Lok Ma Chau counters or machines. At road-bus ports you may need Sheung Shui or Yuen Long first.
- Data: eSIM before you travel. Port desks are pricey or missing.
- Ride toward your district. Do not default to TST and backtrack. Tuen Mun via Shenzhen Bay; Fanling via Lo Wu or Heung Yuen Wai.

Arrive at Lo Wu After Lo Wu immigration you are in East Rail Lo Wu station. Hours about 06:30–24:00. Shenzhen’s Lo Wu Commercial City is at the gate; the Hong Kong station is convenience-store level. Arrive at Futian / Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Shenzhen Futian Port meets Hong Kong Lok Ma Chau East Rail — not the Huanggang road crossing. Hours about 06:30–22:30. Shenzhen: plaza and Shuiwei food within minutes. Hong Kong platform: almost nothing. Arrive at Huanggang / Lok Ma Chau road port 24-hour passenger crossing (confirm ImmD). This is the road control point, not East Rail Lok Ma Chau. On the Hong Kong side, Huang Bus to San Tin then change. Arrive at Shenzhen Bay Port Co-location. Hours about 06:30–24:00. The Shenzhen side is a big plaza — no McDonald’s-style chains at the gate. The Hong Kong side is a bus yard. NLB B2 to Yuen Long; Citybus B3 / B3X to Tuen Mun. Arrive at Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai Hours about 07:00–22:00. Shenzhen side: a mall at the gate (food, pharmacy, bank, mobile shops). Hong Kong side: a rural bus yard. Citybus B7 to Sheung Shui / Fanling, B8 via Tai Po, KMB B9 to Tuen Mun. Arrive at the HKZM Bridge Hong Kong Port 24-hour port. Golden Bus to Zhuhai/Macau. On the Hong Kong side: Citybus B4 to the airport, B5 to Sunny Bay, B6 to Tung Chung; A-buses also stop. Little food. Arrive by ferry: Sheung Wan, China Ferry, SkyPier Macau Ferry in Sheung Wan is a walk to Sheung Wan MTR. China Ferry Terminal in TST is near Jordan / TST. SkyPier is air-side transfers, not into the city. Food exists; ignore touts. Man Kam To and Sha Tau Kok: most visitors skip these Man Kam To is mainly goods plus limited passengers and coaches. Sha Tau Kok passenger service has been suspended during rebuilding — not a normal tourist crossing. First time: Lo Wu, Futian, Shenzhen Bay, Heung Yuen Wai, or HSR. What should I do first?
Airport: Ground Transportation Centre, then Octopus, then Express / bus / taxi. Land: after Hong Kong immigration you are in Hong Kong. HK land gates are poor for food and SIMs. On the Shenzhen side it depends: Liantang and Lo Wu are malls; Shenzhen Bay is a plaza.
Which crossing for Tuen Mun or Yuen Long?
Shenzhen Bay (B3 Tuen Mun, B2 Yuen Long). Lo Wu / Futian means East Rail then a long change. Huanggang mainly if you need overnight.
