Halal: a whole stretch in Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui
Around Kowloon Mosque and from Chungking to Jordan Road: Pakistani, Indian, Nepali, African kitchens. Look for halal signs. Do not assume the whole city is.
Notes dated 2026-09
Mainstream cafes and banquet halls are not halal kitchens. South Asian and African restaurants cluster densely on southern Nathan Road and in Jordan. First stay: Jordan or north TST is easier than Causeway Bay.
Where to walk
- Around Kowloon Mosque on Nathan Road. Busier on Friday.
- Chungking and Mirador: many upstairs kitchens. Read recent reviews and look at hygiene. Lifts are slow.
- Also around Jordan Road, Woosung Street, Temple Street.
What to order
Curry, kebabs, biryani, milk tea. English works better here than in a cha chaan teng. Ask “halal” or read the window. Prices sit above a cafe set, far below a harbour-view restaurant.
Questions
Is cha chaan teng halal?
Most are not. Char siu, ham, stocks, and shared kitchens do not fit. Use a marked kitchen. Do not improvise “no pork” in a cha chaan teng.
