Sai Kung country, toward High Island
Sai Kung country, toward High Island

Outside High Island Reservoir East Dam, the coast shows clear hexagonal columns — one of the easier pieces of Sai Kung UNESCO geology to walk to. No shops, little shade. This is not a waterfront mall.

Weekend route

  1. Reach Sai Kung town, or a weekend special (96R, 289R and similar — check 1933 / Citybus) to Pak Tam Chung.
  2. Green minibus 9A from Pak Tam Chung to the East Dam. Limited trips; queues start on the way out.
  3. Walk the dam for the columns and the sea. The minibus queues on the way back too. Do not cut it fine for the last trip.

Pack

  • Water and sunscreen. The dam is windy; the sun still lands.
  • Hat, grip shoes. Not leather soles on rock.
  • Octopus or cash for the minibus.

Questions

Can I go on a weekday?

The dam is not locked, but 9A is mainly weekends and public holidays. Weekdays mean other minibuses or a taxi, and the return is harder. First visit: a weekend, and leave extra time back to Pak Tam Chung.
