Stay in Causeway Bay for linked malls when it rains. Citybus A11 from the airport. The New Territories need a harbour crossing first.

Causeway Bay is the Island’s shopping core. Times Square, Sogo, Lee Garden, East Point stack into one indoor mesh. On a typhoon or rain day, you can stay off the street more easily than in TST.

From the airport

Citybus A11 serves the Island: longer and dearer than A21. In a hurry: Airport Express to Hong Kong Station, then MTR to Causeway Bay. The underground walk at Hong Kong Station is long with bags — budget time.

Tram

The tram runs through Yee Wo Street. To Happy Valley, Wan Chai, Central, Sheung Wan, the tram shows the street better than the MTR. Pay at the front when you alight, adult $3.30.

Causeway Bay or Wan Chai?

Causeway Bay is more retail, brighter, more packed on weekends. Wan Chai sits by the Expo and Admiralty, with more business hotels and some quieter night streets. One MTR stop apart.

Rain or budget: malls, markets, cafes — not the ridge Rainstorm or a tight budget: Causeway Bay indoors, Sham Shui Po, North Point market, cha chaan tengs. Postpone Dragon’s Back and islands. Octopus beats a sightseeing bus. Trams, ferries, taxis Hong Kong trams: pay when you get off, adult $3.30. Star Ferry is a few dollars. Taxis are red, green, or blue. Harbour tunnel extras depend on whether you boarded at a cross-harbour rank. Sheung Wan / Sai Ying Pun: hills, cafes, more liveable than Central Stay in Sheung Wan or Sai Ying Pun for quieter streets, a walk to Central, and the tram. Hills are real — confirm a lift. Airport Express Hong Kong Station is close. Airport to the city: Express, A21, taxi Airport Express HK$120 Octopus to Hong Kong Station in about 24 minutes; Citybus A21 HK$34.6 to TST/Hung Hom; taxi to Kowloon from about HK$280.
