Stay in Sheung Wan or Sai Ying Pun for quieter streets, a walk to Central, and the tram. Hills are real — confirm a lift. Airport Express Hong Kong Station is close.

Central is for work. Sheung Wan and Sai Ying Pun still feel lived-in: dry-goods shops, cafes, stair streets. If Nathan Road’s glare is not why you came, put this on the list.

The hills are not a metaphor

Above Hollywood Road, Pound Lane, Tai Ping Shan Street: you will hate your suitcase. Read whether the listing is Central D2 or a ten-minute climb from Sai Ying Pun. If a lift exists, take it.

How to arrive

  • Airport Express to Hong Kong Station, then walk or one MTR stop to Sheung Wan.
  • Island line: Sheung Wan, Sai Ying Pun.
  • Tram along Des Voeux Road, adult $3.30, for the street.

Is there food at night in Sheung Wan?

Cha chaan tengs, bars, and Soho kitchens exist, but not Mong Kok’s all-night density. Convenience stores fill gaps. For nightlife, walk toward Lan Kwai Fong / Central. Side streets are not all lit until 2 a.m.
