Dragon’s Back: bus 9 from Shau Kei Wan, alight at To Tei Wan
The well-known ridge on Hong Kong Island East. MTR Shau Kei Wan A2/A3, then bus 9 or a red minibus. Alight To Tei Wan. Water, a hat, no rainstorm days.
Notes dated 2026-09
Dragon’s Back is a ridge on Hong Kong Island East. The view is sea and wind, not mall air-con. Photos flatter it. The ridge itself is sun and drying wind. Underprepared people start to resent the hike halfway along.
To the start
- Island line to Shau Kei Wan. Exit A2 or A3 as signed inside the station.
- Bus 9 toward Shek O; alight To Tei Wan. Or a red minibus toward Shek O — call To Tei Wan.
- Follow Dragon’s Back / Shek O Country Park signs up from the stop.
What to carry
- More water than you think. No shop on the ridge.
- Hat, sunscreen, shoes with grip. Not flip-flops.
- Charged phone, offline map. Signal is mostly there; tree cover can drop it.
Questions
How long, and how hard?
A common line climbs from To Tei Wan and drops toward Shek O or Big Wave Bay, two to four hours with pauses. Not technical climbing. No shade, wind, slick rock. Do not start at noon on your first hike.
