Hong Kong buses: you pay the boarding stop, so short hops need a bus near the end

Franchised buses are KMB (red), Citybus (yellow), and LWB (airport and Lantau). Tap when you board. The fare appears on the reader. Most routes do not tap off. The MTR is the opposite.

Fare stages, in plain language

• A bus from Tuen Mun to TST might cost twenty-plus dollars if you board in Tuen Mun, a little over ten in Tsuen Wan, and less once it is already in Kowloon.
• If you only want two stops from TST to Jordan, do not board at the TST terminus a bus that just finished a long haul at full fare. Take a bus heading into the terminus that has already entered the cheap stages.
• Many stop flags print the stage price from that stop. That is what you will pay.

Night N-routes

After the last MTR, N-prefixed night buses still run. Dearer, infrequent. Check 1933/Citybus instead of waiting 40 minutes. A taxi is often saner.

Airport buses
